What Is In the Tune-Up
- Test the capacitor and contactor under load
- Check refrigerant pressures and superheat or subcooling
- Wash the outdoor condenser coil
- Inspect the indoor evaporator coil for buildup
- Flush the condensate drain line and check the float switch
- Measure amp draw on the compressor and both motors
- Check the temperature split across the coil
- Tighten electrical connections and check the disconnect
- Test the thermostat and inspect the filter
You get a short written rundown of what we found, what is fine, and what is on borrowed time. If nothing needs attention, that is what the sheet says.
Why Spring Is the Time
The capacitor that is testing weak in April is the one that fails on a Saturday in July when every company in Tarrant County has a full board. Catching it in spring means a small part on a scheduled visit instead of a hot house and a wait.
Dirty coils are the other big one. A condenser coil packed with cottonwood fluff and dust cannot shed heat, so the compressor runs longer and hotter. Cleaning it is the simplest efficiency gain there is.
How Often
Once a year for cooling, in the spring, is enough for most systems. Units over ten years old, or ones sitting in full afternoon sun, do better with a fall look at the heating side too. We do not sell contracts you have to remember to cancel. Call when you want the visit.
